The sun was in the process of setting as Ava reached the decently sized playground that was hidden behind the Elementary school, barely visible as it poked out from behind the tree line. Taking a step over one of the large slabs of wood that framed the sand surrounding the equipment, Ava wasted no time in kicking off her sandals and dropping her messenger bag beside them. Picking up speed as she crossed the distance between her items and the play area, she launched herself onto the metallic bars that functioned as a ladder and climbed onto the platform. Closing her eyes for a brief moment as a cooling breeze rushed past and teased at her clothes which consisted of a short lightly worn jean skirt and a nearly rainbow colored bikini top that shown through the white shirt with blue lettering she wore, a faint smile gradually crept onto Ava’s face. It was almost as good as being a kid again.
Crossing the area to her right, Ava passed the slide, monkey bars and trapeze rings before reaching the end of the platform which connected to an elaborate jungle gym. Well aware she was not properly dressed to be managing such a feat, it didn’t stop her in the least. She started to, carefully, scale her way across the top of the tangled mess of bars. Seeing as she was waiting for company to arrive, Ava thought it would’ve been quite hilarious if she had slipped and ended up jumbled and begging for help out her predicament. But, as luck would have it, Ava found herself at the very top unscathed. Taking a seat on the bar, she placed a hand on either side and let her legs and bare feet dangle freely.
Speaking of that company, where was he? Having spoke to him on Twitter, Ava was not even sure if she fully remembered what he might’ve looked like from his name alone. He definitely wasn’t anyone she was overly familiar with or knew well. Oddly enough though, the question that tugged at her head the most had to do with just that. Was he cute? After all, with what their conversation had consisted of, this was a very valid question! Attraction was a very important factor, even if it was all for lessons and kicks. And what may you ask was the basis of their conversation?
Flirting. The do’s and don’ts of attracting a mate. All I can think of is National Geographic or the Discovery Channel…

He tossed the phone onto his bed and pulled his shirt off. His face showed a sign of anger. He paused for thirty seconds before he unfastened his belt and slid off his pants. Within a few more seconds he redressed out of his uniform and switched to regular apparel. Dark blue pants and a dark blue half silk shirt to go with it. He picked up his pants off the ground and took his wallet out and put his pants on top of his shirt on his bed.
He slid the wallet into his back left pocket and headed out. He took the same pathway as he did last time. Burger joint and all. After that ordeal was over he went over to the elementary. He found it pretty quickly, and walked around the corner and he spotted the park. He begun to jog and realized he may be slightly late. There was no exact time given. But he was ready. He had his wallet, phone, and that was enough.
As soon as he arrived at the park he walked over to the swing sets and sat down in one swing. He pushed himself off and his eyes jolted around looking for another person. A few skaters on the sidewalk, he cared less about them. He was looking for a girl who told him to meet her here. Within that moment he spotted a figure on the metallic play thing parks had. He jumped off the swing set and nearly tripped himself.
Kirk then walked over to that figure. "Hello there," he spoke softly. He realized the figure was a girl, "Tony. Tony Trey," he smiled. "I guess...as I promised via Twitter. My name is Kirk Anthony Trey. Just don't tell others."
I hope I am not making the biggest mistake since I got here, and a mistake for taking up lessons...on this topic.

Another gust passed through the air, bringing with it the scent of spring in Oregon. As her smile spread wider, Ava leaned back a bit while holding herself up with her hands that were still wrapped firmly around the bar she sat on. ”I wish this weather would stay forever. Screw summer.” Hot weather, or even worse humid, was coming soon enough and she found herself loathing the idea of it. The spring and fall never lasted long enough before they were replaced with either sweltering heat or bone chilling cold. However she had to admit, she enjoyed Oregon much more than Massachusetts.
BUZZZ.
Knocked out of her head by the vibration inside her skirt’s right pocket, Ava sighed evenly and reached into it to retrieve her cell. She pressed a few buttons to access her messages and began laughing out of the blue, finishing off into a giggle before she slid out her full keyboard and started typing. A few more messages later, she noticed the one by the name of TonyTrey update her saying he had arrived. Writing up a quick response and sending it, she closed her eyes and cursed at realizing she should have at least mentioned exactly where she was in the playground. Then again, it wasn’t as if the place was huge and there certainly wasn’t a lot of people around.
Ava closed the keyboard section and stuffed the cell back into her pocket while beginning to glance around for him. At first she couldn’t see anyone of interest, but immediately her eyes stopped on a guy that was starting to, by the look of things, approach her. Must be him! Raising her hand to wave lightly, she hoped she wasn’t making a fool out of her herself and attracting the wrong company, but this fear rapidly faded as he finally reached her and spoke his name.
”I guess.. as promised via Twitter. My name is Kirk Anthony Trey. Just don’t tell the others.”
”Kirk.. Kirk.” Repeating the name out loud a few times as she usually did with unusual names, Ava turned her view up somewhat as if she were thinking it over. Apparently satisfied with her ‘conclusion’, her eyes dropped back down onto him as the corners of her mouth curled up in delight all over again. ”I like it. Why wouldn’t you use Kirk? It’s much more fascinating than Tony.” As most could always tell about Ava, she obviously had no issues prying into matters that may be considered personal. ”Regardless! It’s nice to meet you Tony. The name’s Ava, Ava Fischer. But for kicks, you can call me by my middle name as well if you wanted. It’s Faye. It can be our ‘thing’.” Flashing him a wink, she laughed and adjusted herself slightly. ”Would you like me to come down, or are you coming up?”
(LOL. Length. Sorry Kirk. )

"Well," Kirk paused at the question Ava rose up to him. The smile on his face quickly vanished. Memories rushed to the frontier of his mind, memories he tried so hard to suppress. It was why he tried to be called Tony instead of his real name Kirk. His parents did not know of it, nor anyone back at home. The fact he agreed to the idea of a boarding school (not that he had a choice) was to start a new life. He took advantage of every little detail he could manipulate. He was able to secure his new name with his teachers due to it being technically a part of his name.
Seconds later his pause continued. He was locked into a lifetime of memories. Years of memories flashed in forth of his eyes, memories of his dear friend. Mister Kirk Anthony Trey wasn't in peace, nor would he any time soon. Within yet another few seconds he bit his lip and looked away, his head bowing down in shame. His facial expression changed to show shame and yet great sadness. Slowly he lifted his head up and looked at Ava and spoke, "I have my reasons." He did not feel like going any further. Kirk would try his best to hide what was on his mind, and his past. But, however, if Ava paid attention to some details closely she should be able to piece it together.
Of course, his teachers knew, or should know that he can be distracted because his best friend just died less then a month ago. He had to see the school shrink, something that he did not want advertised. People would likely understand why he needed some therapy, he lost his closest friend to death. He was still locked in his depression that he tried desperately hard to hide from the world. Kirk getting over the death would not happen anytime soon, nor was he ready to truly confront it. The unthinkable, he attempted, he tried to avoid his best friend's funeral due to withdrawal, luckily his librarian of his old school came for him and dragged him to it. Kirk could never thank her enough for taking him to Sandra's funeral.
Why Sandra? Why could it not be me? Why did Sandra have to be ripped away from me? I just don't understand. Kirk really never understood death, nor he planned to understand it. His recent experience made him want to be ripped away from the world himself, but he wasn't suicidal. He was ready to live out his life, no matter how bland it may be. With great duress he pushed through the days, and now, he met a few people and started seeing an upside again. It felt he was being ripped out of withdrawal by himself and others forming his new identity. "I shouldn't have said anything," he whispered softly coming to a realization.
At Ava's word Kirk jumped and quickly folded his arms nearly half way with his elbows tucked out and his hands toward the middle of his front. His arms when stared at correctly formed a diamond shape laying to the side. He pressed his palms against the cold metal floor which Ava was on, he was lifted off the ground holding himself up. The muscles in his arms seared with a light strain and pain as he held himself up and pushed extra energy to lift himself up further. He bulged the center of his body and jumped from midair to even higher to allow himself to get on the top of the metal floor. Kirk sat right next to Ava.
"Well, hello there Faye," he abused the middle name at the first opportunity he had. Kirk forced a smile on his lips, however, the smile was weak, very weak. He did not laugh with her, but he quickly shook his head and snapped himself back into reality. "I apologize, but, I'm here, up here," his tone soft and yet with a forced calamity and his weak smile remained.

Judging by the expression that rapidly surfaced on his face, Ava knew she had struck a sore chord. She never really thought out her questions before they had already popped out from her mouth, so she didn’t think twice about prying into his life. Now that she could see the result, Ava wished she could’ve pulled the word vomit back in. A long pause ensued and despite her urge to speak up and tell him it was alright if he didn’t want to continue, she remained quiet and patient. Her curiosity usually did win out.
Unfortunately it was not given the chance to be satisfied as he declined her question. Ava couldn’t help but express her gloom for this with a slight frown. She had been hoping to be let in, however Tony had left her outside. She couldn’t really blame him though. It wasn’t as if she knew him well. At least not yet. She would have to work on fixing that. Ava certainly couldn’t shake the feeling of Tony needing someone to talk to.
Watching him work his way up to her, the corner of her lip pulled up into a crooked smirk. Ava shifted to the side slightly in order to allow him a little more room. She certainly had no issue being so close, but she didn’t know how he felt about his space. Better to be safe than sorry. ”I haven’t heard anyone use that name with me since my Dad passed away. But don’t worry; I have little issue with hearing it. If anything, it brings back sweet memories.” Taking a small moment to take a deep breath in, her chest rose out before she unexpectedly laughed at a passing thought and reached a hand up onto her stomach. It had hurt to break the breath so abruptly.
”So is there anything specific you needed help with when it comes to sweeping someone off their feet, or are you simply inept at flirting?” Obviously not meaning to insult the guy, she flashed a warm smile towards him before moving herself back to her original position which placed her directly next to him. Their clothes were practically brushed each other with each movement. ”Have you even been on a date?”

In the silence he sat without a word but with a weak smile that remained forced on his face. His face wasn't relaxed as a usual conversation without drama would be, and people who had a skill of reading faces would immediately be able to pick up Kirk's emotions. Kirk's emotions were delayed, quiet, and forced out as if something scared them away.
"Well then Miss Ava," his smile loosened up, forming a real smile that was no longer forced. His tone housed a calm voice, something of a distraction, something hidden but calm and slowly recovering. He wouldn't call her by her middle name again due to the pass, and as he felt it violated some sense of sanctity. Her words that it brought back sweet memories caused a genuine smile to appear on his newly relaxed face. With a heavy sigh, he let go of his thoughts and was ready to proceed.
His head cocked to his left side to have a better view of Ava. After an impulsive decision, he shifted his body around slighty to face her more directly without causing strain on his neck. "Well. I guess, the basics?" he answered the question that rose softly. He was completely in experienced with this field of flirting. Or was it an art? "I am completely inept at flirting." He felt Ava's smile was a given, and was slightly taken by surprise that it wasn't a grin.
Ava added a question and Kirk's face flashed with red. "Er..." he hesitated, trying to confront his embarrassing answer. Kirk himself was embarrassed. He lifted his left arm and formed somewhat of a triangle look with his arm forming two sides and his body one. He scratched the back of his head as he finally answered in a highly embarrassed tone, "Yeah." His arm collapsed back down to his side as he answered again hesitantly, "I have never been on a date."
God. That has to be the most embarrassing thing a male can ever say? I am sure I'm like the last guy on Earth that hasn't dated. But great, I never cared until dad made a huge deal out of it. I am only fifteen for gods sake. Kirk's thoughts were rash, but a grin formed on his face. His faced kept an embarrassed look for several more seconds until it was wiped from all emotion. He had nothing further to say, for now.

Ava couldn’t recall how many dates she had been on, let alone when her first had been. Letting her eyes vaguely stray off of Tony, she could feel herself pulling back into the recesses of her mind. Let’s see here.. My last date was with Kyle, and then there was Micheal. Oh, I can’t forget Andrew. He was something else. Where was I? Oh yes. Greg, Stephen, Sean, Roland, Shiloh.. Shiloh! Oh my god. He was so long back, but he really was a jerk. Not only did he make me go pick him up, but he didn’t even pay for anything! Wouldn’t even pay me back for what I did spend on his cheap ass. Oh, and Greg was almost as bad. 6’2’’ and walking about ten paces ahead of me on a cold night, I’m all but running to keep up with him. Then when I finally asked him to slow down because it was degrading and humiliating for him to be so far ahead of me, he has the nerve to tell me to walk faster and that I should just keep up! Wait, where was I?
Giving up on trying to figure it out, her eyes swiftly adjusted back onto Tony just in time to catch the bright blush that crossed his cheeks in reaction to her investigation on the topic of his dating experience. Ava grinned broadly to this and managed to suppress a snicker that nearly snuck out of her. It wasn’t his experience (or lack thereof) that made her want to laugh; it was the embarrassment he was undoubtedly showing. He was naught more than a bashful boy who didn’t have a clue how to handle flirting. Ava thought this was definitely rather cute. All of a sudden the rest he had spoke during her zone out flooded back into her mind like a tape player reciting the conversation all over again. ”The basics, huh? Works for me.”
Thinking back to her moment of reminiscing, Ava pondered her reliability to teach Tony what he accurately needed to know. Her dates were apparently nothing special or remarkably noteworthy, even if she had snagged maybe one or two that were comparatively decent. Then again, she wasn’t here to show him how to catch the right person or make the dates truly sensible. It was her job to instruct him on how to get them. She had experience in that much. ”Well first things first.” Leaning back, Ava placed her hands behind her to support her upper form as she crossed one leg over the other. ”Treat me as a potential date.”
Smirking, Ava tilted her head to the side in that bad-habit cute-fashion she always managed to pull off so well. ”You’re cute. Come around here often?” Ok, so this was a bit too much or she wasn’t the best instructor, but she would definitely make the lesson entertaining. And man oh man, would Tony’s boundaries be pushed way too far in the course of the next five to ten minutes…

In a sense Mister Kirk Anthony Trey was not ready to take this step and in a sense he was ready. He felt bad he was learning only to get a girlfriend to get his father off of his back. Kirk be kicking back on the couch when his dad had to bring up the many 'life' lecture 'talks'. The birds and the bees, the glorious ways of the woman, puberty things, yadda, yadda. All Kirk did was roll his eyes at his father and wished himself someplace else. He would trade anything for those lectures instead of the gay talk now. It bothered him that his father thought he was gay in a way, and Kirk did not know what he was. Nor, did he care. Kirk was just himself and planned on remaining that way as long as he could. Such innocence Kirk had.
Treat her as a potential date. Do you have an idea how awkward that is? Wow...simply...wow. Er...this thing better work out and not make me the local laughing stock. Kirk Trey was risking his no reputation for an even worse reputation. Kirk shifted his sitting position to his legs out stretched in front of him. He then leaned his back against the metal pillar in the corner and it sent a shiver through his spine. It woke him up from his thinking process. "So, treat you as a potential date?" he replied questionably and his tone had hints of confusion but yet understanding as well. He was unsure how to take this, as he never experienced it before. Such innocence Kirk had.
A smirk appeared on her face and for some reason he mimicked it. She spoke words that seemed carefully chosen to him and he had no idea how to reply to them. Was it a compliment? Or was it set up? He had no clue how to answer. But, he answered out of impulse, "No, not really. I'm new around here." His reply failed. He knew it sucked within seconds later he added a hastily addition, "But, I guess I should come around more often." His smirked wiped directly off of his face as it has been slapped off. He shook his head and looked up at Ava, "I failed, did I?" His weak smile returned once again. Such innocence Kirk had.
He wasn't hurt or anything, he was just frustrated and embarrassed at himself. Within seconds the frustration faded but the embarrassment stayed. Kirk's legs retracted halfway to his chest and collapsed as he used the strength in them to straighten his sitting position. He wanted his back straight as a sign he was listening to Ava. He was interested in the topic, but however was scared to death of it. "I'd give anything to get my dad off of my back about this gay thing now," he sighed out of turn. "Hell, he can start the embarrassing birds and the bees lecture again, his tone if his only son is gay frightens me." He spoke the truth, his dad frightened him. Such innocence Kirk had.
Kirk continued to speak out of turn after a pause of a few seconds, "Heh. Do all parents have embarrassing lectures like my dad? Or apply pressure on how the family must live on? Heh. If I remember right, if something happens, I'll be the end of more then twenty five family lines." Kirk paid little attention to the exact recorded number, which was twenty seven. He paid little attention to things he had or did every day such as the seventeen steps he takes from his bed to the bathroom at home or the fifty seven steps to the fridge. Kirk Trey had no experience in the field of dating at all, or anything related to it in any remote way. Such innocence Kirk had.
The knowledge he spoke too much soaked into his mind, and yet another impulsive comment slipped from his lips, "I failed, yet again, did I?" He sighed closing his eyes for a second. Upon opening them he spoke new, carefully chosen words, "If in anyway I fail you reserve the right to slap me." He deserved it. He was lucky enough Ava was going out of her way to help him with his 'problem'. "Is it wrong that the only reason I am doing this is to get my dad off my back?" Such innocence Kirk had.

| | Re: The Basics (10th May 09 at 2:46am UTC) | | Enjoying the fact that he was being thrown for a loop over her sudden change in demeanor and her choice of words, Ava watched him adjust his position as she waited unswervingly for his response. Once it came, she just couldn’t help herself from giving a somewhat edgy laugh to his obviously uneasy addition of words. It hadn’t been wholly awful. All Ava could think of was Kate Harper and that made her grin in a twisted manner. That girl would fall for just about anything a guy might say to her. It was a good thing Tony and Kate were friends. If he had any hope of snagging a girl in a speedy manner, it would be Kate. Then again, as Ava took a split second to look over Tony, she abruptly came to the conclusion that having them hook up would probably be excellent for the both of them. She wasn’t about to play matchmaker though. Her luck Kate would fall head over heels then Tony would discover he was indeed gay. She didn’t want to hurt Kate.
Her grin had faded some as Tony spoke of his failure and took on that fairly broken expression as he had before. More so than anything else, Ava thought he had a likability factor. He was different than most guys, but more than that, he gave off the feeling of one that a girl could connect with on a friendship level easily. This made her smile return as she shook her head in response. He had not failed. It certainly wasn’t as bad as he thought. It had been a silly exercise to use on him. But before Ava had the chance to speak up, he spoke up once more.
Ava listened attentively, sitting up and turning herself to better face him. She couldn’t help but think back to her own father as he spoke. Would he have been judgmental of her if she had chosen that path? Deep down Ava liked to think no, but truthfully she had no idea. She had been so young when both of her parents had died that she remembered and knew very little about them on a level deeper than the fact they both loved her. She supposed that was a good thing. Every kid wished they knew that solely and it wasn’t in question. They hadn’t had time to question it. She liked to think they would be proud of her now if they could see.
She waited until he finished entirely before giving another troubled laugh in response to him questioning his second failure before shaking her head once more. ”I wouldn’t know if all parents were like that. I lost my mom at about the same time I lost my dad. My nana has custody of me and she’s never had that talk with me or hinted towards it.” Ava supposed she was lucky in this fact. ”I don’t think it’s really all that wrong, but I do think you should be honest with him when you do figure out which side you’re attracted to. He might react badly, but it’s better than living with the guilt or trying to pretend to be something you’re not.” Leaving her words of wisdom at that, she flashed an encouraging smile.
”The question is, are you seriously interested in dating and figuring this out on your own or are you looking for more of an escort?” Suddenly realizing how bad that must’ve came out, she nervously raised a hand she shook it dismissively. ”I mean.. Someone that can pretend to be your girlfriend for the sake of satisfying your dad’s curiosity and judgment for the time being?” Laughing again, Ava’s sweet voice resounded timidly again. ”Though I have to admit, I would recommend feeling out your options and figuring this out for real. It might not be wise to give your father one idea then have it change later down the line.”
